I just got a call from Billmeier and everyone is back in high camp after reaching the summit today! The whole team made it on a beautiful warm(ish) sunny, calm day at 20,000 ft. They spent over an hour on the top today enjoying the views and taking lot's of pictures.
Congratulations to everyone. They'll start down tomorrow, and will be to basecamp in just a couple of days.

Goodmorning Michael,
God is good!!! Congrats to all of you!!! Yesterday throughout the day I would push you up a little higher and send you guys plenty of oxygen and ask God to be your hands and feet when you needed it the most. Eric, congratulations to you and all the climbers who met the challenge of Denali! By the way, did you have to carry the Purdue guy on your back to the top so he could plant the Boilermaker flag?!
He owes you a hot chocolate back at base camp! FYI: Julia and Drew arrived safely in the Smokies where they have taken up golf! Love, Mom & Dad

This is a public space and you must take care what you say. The 'Purdue guy' is my brother and he made it on his own. We are very proud of him.

hi jody,
i was chuck's tentmate the entire time on denali. i apologize for my dad offending you and any of your loved ones with his purdue dig. i assure you he meant no harm whatsover. i'm an IU grad, as is my dad and sister (who went off, fell in love with, and married a purdue grad. but sssshhhh!). it was just a weird coincidence to find myself on denali with a fellow big 10 grad, let alone one from our archrival, purdue. let me assure you chuck is a much stronger climber than i am. he was very helpful during the expedition on a number of occasions, one of which particularly comes to mind. i accidentally stepped on my pack's hip belt with my crampons during a break at 16K and as a result it was half-broke, still functioning but had me worried it'd break any moment. as soon as chuck heard about it, he offered me a backup. i can't tell you how much peace of mind it was on summit day knowing i had a replacement if the need arose; it allowed me to focus on climbing instead of worrying about my gear. one thing you might enjoy: i envied your brother's appetite. the higher we went, the less i wanted to eat, which is natural. but all the way through, chuck was eating seconds and thirds. there's a saying on denali that, "he/she who eats makes it to the top." take care and i'm sure we'll be e-mailing in the future, as i look forward to following chuck's progress on the AT next year.
